Living in the Supernatural

an examination of the supernatural lifestyle and gifts that are evident in a Spirit-filled believer.

Years ago a prominent author wrote, “Whatever contributions earlier theologians have made—and they have made many—a theology of spiritual gifts has not been one of them.” Consequently, we have few biblical paradigms within the Holiness movement teaching how to flow in the supernatural gifts identified in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10. The Bible says, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7). The word “manifestation” (phanerosis) describes an expression. The purpose of the Holy Spirit’s expression is for the profit of the body of Christ. The word “profit” (sumphero) means to come along someone and build them up for their advantage. The body of Christ is made strong and healthy through the Spirit’s manifestations; it’s never torn apart, split, nor divided because of them. Therefore, if there is not a biblical understanding of supernatural gifts the Church will run the risk of never becoming a healthy body.

This series builds a biblical paradigm for the supernatural lifestyle, not merely the gifts. In fact, the emphasis of 1 Corinthians 12 is more about a lifestyle filled with the Spirit than any particular gift, and this lifestyle is built on the foundation of character and holiness. Without purity, power will never be sustainable. One of the reasons many people fear the subject matter of the charismata (gifts) is because they have witnessed the display of power without character, maturity, and holiness. These two components cannot be separated: purity of heart and power in life.

You will learn historically why the supernatural lifestyle has become so controversial, and why so many believers are content to function without power. Additionally, you will discover the biblical necessity of the Word and the Spirit being integrated and why those components should shape your entire life. A supernatural lifestyle is the result of walking in intimacy with Christ. It should be natural to live in the supernatural. This message series is an experience that will prepare you to function in the lifestyle advocated by Jesus and demonstrated in the book of Acts.
